L-Tyrosine can be converted by neurons in the brain and in the adrenal medulla of the adrenal glands to dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine neurotransmitters that are depleted by stress or overwork. By replenishing norepinephrine in the brain, mental energy levels are enhanced and a feeling of contentment often occurs. L-Tyrosine also aids in adrenal, thyroid and pituitary function. As a precursor of thyroid hormones thyroxin and melanin, L-Tyrosine plays an important role in controlling metabolic rate, not to mention skin health, mental health, and growth rate. L-Tyrosine can also enhance athletic performance. L-Tyrosine is an important component of protein and helps form the bioactive factors vital to cellular growth and maintenance.
